4Paws Rescue Team Adopt National Cat Day is celebrated on October 29.

National Cat Day is celebrated on October 29.

National Cat Day was created by Colleen Paige to bring awareness to the number of cats that need to be rescued each year. Her mission is: “To help galvanize the public to recognize the number of cats that need to be rescued each year and also to encourage cat lovers to celebrate the cat(s) in their lives for the unconditional love and companionship they bestow upon us.”

According to Kitten Coalition, approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.4 million are cats. Each year, approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized (1.4 million cats). Approximately 2.7 million shelter animals are adopted each year (1.3 million cats).” In fact, 4Paws saved over 800 homeless cats and kittens in 2020.

Remember that National Cat Day is intended to celebrate cats and encourage adoption. There is a tremendous joy in adopting a cat since these kitties seem to know that they are being saved and can quickly bond with their new owners. Adopted cats are so happy to be safe and loved.
