Adoption Fair Spotlight

Twice a month, volunteers show up at Fairfax and Sterling Petco stores to show off 4Paws adoptable cats to the public. These events give the cats an opportunity to meet potential adopters in person.

Volunteers show up the night before to set up the cages and supplies in preparation for the adoption fair. The day of the fair, foster parents bring their cats and get them settled in. Some cats do better than others but every single one is there with the hope that they will meet their perfect new family. Throughout the event, volunteers are greeting potential adopters, answering questions about the adoption process, and taking cats to a room where they can have a one-on-one meeting with the adopter. This is usually the first step for most adopters. They will need to fill out the application and go through the adoption process before they can take their new family member home, usually in a few days. Some adopters fill out applications in advance and come to the adoption fairs preapproved, so they are able to take their new cat home with them that day!

At the end of the day, volunteers clean the cages and return everything back to storage. It’s a lot of work, but the volunteers have the satisfaction of knowing they played a key part in helping the cats find their new forever home.
